This is the home page of the site. Here we will explain some of the stuff we will do in this site.
We will discuss some examples of Outliars, Outcasts, and outsiders.
They have some similarities as well as some diffrences, Everyone is either an outliar or an outcast or an outsider in at least something.
Very successful people have been outsiders or outliars.
Some examples are the the founders of Microsoft and Apple.
Paul Allen on Left, Bill Gates On Right, Founders of Microsoft
Steve Jobs on the left, Ronald Wayne in the middle, Steve Wozniak, on the right; Founders of Apple
Here is a video on some defintions of "outlier".
We used Youtube No-Cookie, a privacy 1st version. Less people use it. We are outliers. :)
Dailymotion is also cool ;)
The 1st and 2nd ones are the closest to the kind we are talking about right now. But the 3rd one kind of has similarites, the idea of being seperated, but by erosion and not society. The 2nd Defintion is a little closer, this one is in data. The closest one is the 1st one though. On the 1st defintion it says "One whose domicile lies at an appreciable distance from his or her place of business.". This means that they are a distance away from there normal place in buisness. An OutLier in this case is someone who thinks diffrently than most people. Most = More than 50%.
We are only going to show examples NOT shown on the 1st page!
He is an outlier because he owns a search engine that does not track you. Most Search engines Track what you do and do not really care as much about privacy. He is also diffrent because he made his search engine open so that anyone could add API's to the search engine to improve the functionality. There was already Cuil who did not really track you (There was even an easter egg in DuckDuckGo About it) but they did not focus as much on privacy and base there whole search engine of privacy like DuckDuckGo, and instead on results but eventually went out of business. Recently, similar search engines have come up such as Startpage and a few more. He also has a privacy blog where they share privacy tips. He is positive.
Steve Case was one of the founders of Aol. He was the one who made Aol super successful. He was an outsider because he ran Aol diffrently than most ISP's at the time. When Aol was being founded, as Control Video Corporation later Quantum Link and then America Online and Finally Aol, most ISP's at the time such as CompuServe targeted big companies and charged alot of money for Internet. But Aol was cheaper and targeted the average user, because of this, Aol rised to become the largest ISP in the world for a while. They started buying out all there competitiors such as CompuServe and many more. They eventually murged with Time Warner for about $120 Billion dollars in the year 2000. This was a huge mistake for Aol as they stated loosing money. Steve Case left Aol in 2003, he is one of the largest people of the Internet, if he did not exist, the Internet would not been as adapted as it is today. Aol is still around today and is still a huge comany. They mostly do advertising stuff now, they still have their email service and recently discontinued there Messanger, AIM. They are merged with Yahoo in a company named Oath owned by Verizon. He is positive.
As you may be able to see, the meanings of these words overlap eachother. So we will be putting them on the same page together. The way we will be looking at it is "Some one who is pushed away from a group because of there diffrences.". Most of the definitions say "Someone who has been excluded from a society". But it often happens because of differences though. Another defintion is a small chance of winning something, that kind of matches, as they are often very small comapred to the winners, although, we will not be using this defintion. We will be mostly calling them "Outcast", this is because it is much more narrow in defintions. If you do not know any of these people, its always good to learn ;).
Martin Luther King Jr. helped fight for balck rights. He took part in many protests. The white people and authorites gave him a hard time and made his life difficult and took away his rights. He was an outsider because the majority of white people hated him in the beggining and he fought against them to stand for equal rights. Soon after the bill was past that gave equal rights to everyone. There were still people who despised him so much that he was later shot by James Earl Ray. His protests eventually achieved his goal of equal rights. He is positive.
Rosa Parks is most well known for refusing to give a white person the front seat of a bus. This was someone who had a hard time because of their race. She was arrested for not giving someone her seat on the bus. When she got arrested she sparked protests. There were people who supported her and people who hated her. She assisted a long Martin Luther King Jr in the protests. She recently died in 2005. She was an outcast because she was disliked by many people but she was still liked by a few. She is positive.
Both of them have mean that they are not included in a group. They are often not in a group because they may not belong to a particular group or accepted. This can be good and bad stuff.
The differences between outcasts and outliers is that outliers are different from the group rather then kicked out and despised by everyone such as outcasts. For exsample they may not look the same or they may not think alike everyone else. Outsiders are normally just don't belong to a particular group.
